End of an Era

For me, it's the end of an era. I have had a great time, but now is the right time for me to move on. I'll still be around, windsurfing in various places, and enjoying the best Cyprus has to offer, if you love the sport. And thanks to all those real friends I have made on the beach during the past few summers. It's made it all worthwhile. www.Surfcyprus.com will continue but you may see subtle changes, as it develops into the premier windsurfing portal for the island. And, of course, I will keep up the beachblogger...from different beaches. |

wobbly wednesday followed by Big Saturday

Around 2.30 pm the wind kicked in and it was playtime for Matt and Rich in Pissouri Bay, and Valentino got out on his kite taking air. Great for them, but not ideal for teaching Jean Luc. Around 4 pm the wind dropped when I got out. However, it looked as though it was still blowing on the horizon. So I wobbled out of the bay, and there it was raw F4/5 and plenty of ramps to play in. I looked around but the guys who don't know the local conditions, wobbled back, bemoaning the tricky wind while I was out having fun. Today, it looks as though we'll have F4 most of the afternoon, followed by light winds tomorrow, but we are braced for Big Saturday touching F5 in the bay. Stand by! |

Amazing Wind

Force Five in the Bay building all day from 11 am, providing fantastic flat water conditions for trying out the carve gybes. George was out on his 7.2m sail....well overpowered. I tried the 6m and that was too much. Then it started to calm down at 4 pm when Mimi joined in. She had a great session on a 4.2m sail, and is really getting into the harness lines now. Great day all round, and there's a prospect of more of the same tomorrow according to Cycofos, the Cyprus oceanography service (the link is on our front page). Forecast is for Force 5. Wow. |

It's a miracle

.During dinner at the Two Friends (what a great place), we heard that there was a turtle watch operation tonight, so we went down to the beach and there we were privileged to watch a miracle - ten rare loggerhead turtles being hatched, before scampering off to the sea, attracted by the full moon. Respect to the volunteers of turtle watch who sit up all night watching over the nests, and Tony who introduced them to the sea. Thanks for a truly memorable experience. |

Now we're like Jaws

Strange weather put us out of action today I'm afraid - big southerly winds pushed up huge waves onto our beach, making it impossible to operate in the bay. Even the lifeguards had to take cover, as their shelter was under a foot of water from the huge breaking waves crashing on our beach. The surf was breaking by the buoys, and they are 50 metres out. Looked like Jaws. Pity we don't have Californian style surf boards! Should be back to normal for Saturday, that is light winds in the morning, and a stronger blow in the afternoon. |

Trip Adviser has been used to do a malicious review about us that is so factually wrong that it deserves to win an award as spoof of the year. We're not that bothered, because we know we are appreciated by the vast majority of our customers, but if you've enjoyed windsurfing in Pissouri, please put a balancing piece on the Trip Adviser website. We can take criticism. We can do without malicious falsehoods, thank you! |
